Peggy Higgins ’66 Uses IRA Beneficiary Designation to Create a Transformational Legacy

Growing up in Meriden, Connecticut, it was a short drive for high school student Margaret “Peggy” M. Higgins ’66 when she visited Albertus Magnus College to attend a writing workshop. But that single visit would have a big impact by revealing to young Peggy her college home.
In addition to serving in student government and being active in the Young Democrats, Peggy says Albertus is where she learned to think critically and write clearly—two skills that would serve her well during her career. Now she says, “I want to ensure the same opportunities for tomorrow’s students.”
To make that desire a reality, Peggy has named Albertus as the beneficiary of her IRA. This generous gift, coming on top of decades of consistent annual support, is her way of ensuring future students have the same opportunities that she enjoyed.
After graduating with a political science degree, Peggy launched a career for the federal government as a human resources management professional. Now a resident of Northern Virginia, she has remained in touch with the College by attending Golden Society reunions and as a member of The President’s Associates thanks to her generous annual support.
Peggy chose to make her estate gift unrestricted, placing her trust in future Albertus leaders. She also hopes to inspire other alumni to make a similar commitment. As she says, “With estate gifts, we can transform annual gifts into transformational legacies.”
